What Is Path of Exile 2?
Path of Exile 2 is the long-awaited standalone sequel to Grinding Gear Games' legendary ARPG. With a completely new campaign, overhauled combat system, and 12 new ascendancy classes, it's simultaneously the best entry point for new players and a fresh challenge for veterans. This guide covers everything you need to go from beach to endgame Atlas.
⚔️ Act 1 — The Forsaken Coast
You wake up on a beach (classic PoE). Your first task is surviving the Forsaken Coast and reaching the town of Clearfell.
Early Game Tips
- Pick up everything — Sell whites/blues to vendors for transmutation/alteration shards. Currency is king in PoE2.
- Socket your gems immediately — PoE2's gem system is different from PoE1. Gems now go into your character, not your gear. You get skill gems from quest rewards.
- Don't ignore defences — Life and armour/evasion matter more early on than DPS. A dead exile deals zero damage.
🛡️ Three Beginner-Friendly Builds
Choosing the right build makes or breaks your first playthrough. Here are three proven starters:
1. Lightning Sorceress (Witch)
Playstyle: Screen-clearing AoE caster. Chain lightning bounces between enemies.
- Main skill: Arc → Chain Lightning (upgraded at level 28)
- Key stats: Intelligence, Energy Shield, Cast Speed
- Ascendancy: Stormweaver
- Budget: Works on zero investment. Scales infinitely with gear.
2. Tornado Shot Ranger
Playstyle: Fast-moving bow build that shreds packs from range.
- Main skill: Tornado Shot
- Key stats: Dexterity, Evasion, Projectile Speed
- Ascendancy: Deadeye
- Budget: Needs a decent bow by Act 3. Farm The Climb zone if struggling.
3. Slam Marauder (Melee Starter)
Playstyle: Tanky ground-slam bruiser. Hard to kill, satisfying impacts.
- Main skill: Earthquake
- Key stats: Strength, Life, Armour
- Ascendancy: Titan
- Budget: Literally any two-handed weapon works. The tankiest starter by far.
🗺️ Acts 2–4 Campaign Walkthrough
Act 2 — The Desert
The difficulty spikes here. Enemies deal fire and chaos damage. Prioritise fire resistance on your gear (aim for 50%+). The Act 2 boss, the Sand Wraith, has a devastating ground slam — stay mobile and attack during recovery windows.
Act 3 — The Ruins of Vaal
Introduces the Spirit system — a new resource that gates your active skill slots. Complete the Spirit quest in the Vaal Chambers to unlock your 4th and 5th skill gems. The Vaal Oversoul boss fight requires you to dodge falling pillars while DPSing the core.
Act 4 — The Frozen Reaches
Cold damage everywhere. Cap your cold resistance at 75% before entering. The Frost Titan boss is a gear check — if you're dying, farm The Tundra zone for 30 minutes to level up and upgrade gear.
🔚 Acts 5–6 & Endgame Atlas
Acts 5 and 6 conclude the campaign and unlock the Atlas of Worlds endgame.
Atlas Strategy for New Players
- Complete bonus objectives — Each map has a bonus condition (e.g., rare boss kill). These increase your map drop rate.
- Follow the Atlas tree — Pick one league mechanic to specialise in (Breach, Ritual, or Delirium are the most profitable).
- Don't skip maps — Run every map you find. Atlas progression is linear; skipping maps leaves gaps.
