01 Release Date & Platforms
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced launches July 9, 2026.
It’s confirmed for:
- PlayStation 5 / PS5 Pro — with haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, Tempest 3D Audio, and three graphics modes
- Xbox Series X|S
- PC (Steam & Ubisoft Connect)
- Cloud streaming via GeForce NOW and Blacknut
No Switch 2 version has been announced yet, though Ubisoft hasn’t ruled it out for the future.
The game requires a one-time online connection to install, but the entire experience is playable offline after that.
02 What Is “Resynced”?
Not a remaster. Not a sequel. Ubisoft is calling it a “faithful recreation” — 13 years after the original launched in 2013.
The game has been rebuilt from the ground up on the latest evolution of Ubisoft’s proprietary Anvil engine, the same tech powering Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Many of the original developers at Ubisoft Singapore returned to lead the project.
“Breathe new life into a fan favourite while remaining carefully faithful to the spirit of the original.”
Think of it as the original Black Flag’s DNA — Edward Kenway, the Jackdaw, the Caribbean — but with modern tech, new content, and quality-of-life improvements across the board.
03 What’s New
Resynced isn’t just a visual upgrade. Here’s what’s been added or changed:
New Characters & Stories
Three new officers can be recruited to your crew, each with their own backstory missions. Adding them to the Jackdaw grants additional ship abilities. The original cast — Edward, Adéwalé, Blackbeard, Mary Read, Anne Bonny, Charles Vane — all return.
Oh, and you can now bring a cat or monkey aboard the Jackdaw. Yes, really.
No Modern-Day Sections
The Animus/modern-day sections are gone. The entire game is focused on Edward’s story in the Caribbean with no interruptions. This is one of the biggest structural changes from the original.
Modernised Combat
The combat system has been overhauled with a new parry-driven system. Expect more responsive, skill-based swordplay rather than the counter-spam of the original.
Seamless Open World
The world is now fully seamless — sailing around and docking at ports is a smooth, uninterrupted experience. No loading screens between land and sea.
Modernised Parkour
Movement and traversal have been updated to feel more fluid and responsive on next-gen hardware.
04 Visuals & Performance
The visual upgrade is massive. Built on the latest Anvil engine, Resynced features:
- Fully modernised water rendering and simulation — this was already Black Flag’s standout feature, now it’s next-gen
- Raytraced Global Illumination (RTGI) across all graphics modes
- Next-gen lighting, textures, and environments
- Higher enemy counts in naval battles
- Improved wildlife AI
PS5 Graphics Modes
The PS5 Pro version gets additional graphical enhancements and ships with Enhanced PSSR out of the box.
05 PC System Requirements
Ubisoft has confirmed full PC specs. Storage requires 65 GB on an SSD (HDD not supported). Windows 11 required across all tiers.
Minimum (1080p / 30 FPS / Low)
Recommended (1080p / 60 FPS / Medium)
Ultra (4K / 60 FPS / Ultra + RT Extended)
06 Editions & Pre-Order Bonus
Three editions are available for pre-order right now:
- Base game
- Pre-order bonus (if applicable)
- Base game
- Master Assassin Character Pack (Edward costume, swords, pistols, trinket with unique perks)
- Everything in Deluxe
- Physical collectibles
Pre-Order Bonus: Blackbeard’s Crimson Pack
All pre-orders include:
- Crimson Costume
- Crimson Sword
- Crimson Pistol
Each item also grants unique gameplay perks (details not yet confirmed).
07 Naval Combat
Black Flag’s ship battles were the highlight of the original, and Resynced doubles down:
- More responsive naval controls — the Jackdaw handles better on next-gen
- Higher enemy counts in ship-to-ship battles
- New crew abilities tied to the three recruitable officers
- Seamless boarding — no loading between sailing and combat
The core loop is the same: sail the Caribbean, hunt ships, board them, steal their cargo, upgrade the Jackdaw. But it all feels tighter and more cinematic now.
08 Should You Be Excited?
Here’s the honest breakdown:
Reasons to be hyped
- Black Flag is widely considered the best Assassin’s Creed game — a pirate fantasy that actually delivered
- Full Anvil engine rebuild, not a lazy remaster
- No modern-day sections (the most common complaint about the original: gone)
- New content and characters add replay value even for veterans
- 60 FPS on consoles, seamless world, gorgeous water tech
Reasons to wait and see
- No Freedom Cry DLC included
- No multiplayer
- Ubisoft’s recent track record with launches has been mixed
- Full pricing for a remake — depends on how much new content justifies it
If you loved the original, this is likely a day-one purchase. If you’ve never played Black Flag, this is hands-down the best way to experience it.
